Good morning, folks!

1. One thing you should all understand: One thing that I hope you are all understanding about evolutions and natural selection is that an individual does not adapt in order to survive a new challenge. You hear language all the time that implies that organisms can do this -- for example, that bacteria evolved resistance "in order to survive" treatment with antibiotics. In fact, no individual can evolve; instead, populations evolve because some individuals are born with genetic traits that allow them to survive long enough to produce more offspring than others. If the environment changes and NO individual has adaptations that allow them to produce offspring ... well, the species goes extinct. It's as simple as that. They can't just go get the adaptations they need "in order to survive." This is a big idea. Does it make sense to you?

2. What's due today? Digging Deeper assignments are due tonight by 8 with responses by 11:00 p.m. Don't forget those substantive responses!

3. What's due tomorrow? Nothing! You won't have any assignments due until Sunday's Freelance Writer, so enjoy the two day break from the class!

4. Check your grades! I feel like I've said this before.....Check your point totals against the grade cutoffs on the Grading Policies page, set a realistic goal, and do everything you can to achieve that goal. We're down to 4 more weeks until the end of the semester!

You probably won't hear from me until Sunday, but if you need anything, you know where to find me!

Heather
